Automotive interior fabric is a demanding place to run a nonwoven line. Headliners, floor carpet, wheel-arch liners, trunk trim, and acoustic panels each carry weight, thickness, and consistency specs that a car maker will audit, and the tier suppliers making them cannot afford web variation or unplanned downtime. Most automotive interior products start the same way: fiber opening and blending, carding to form a web, cross lapping to build weight, then consolidation by needle punching, thermal bonding, or both. What changes between a headliner and a trunk carpet is the recipe and the settings, not the backbone of the line. Because KSG designs and manufactures the opening line, carding machine, cross lapper, needle looms, and dryers in house, those stages arrive matched for material flow and web width, which is where a lot of multi-vendor projects lose time during commissioning.
Buyers usually ask us two things early on. First, can the line hold the areal weight tolerance a car program demands across a full shift, and second, how fast can they switch from one product to another. On automotive work we plan for both from the layout stage: scale-box feeding and profiled cross lapping to keep the weight steady, and grouped setpoints so a changeover from, say, a needlepunch floor mat to a lighter trim felt is a recipe recall rather than a mechanical rebuild. Practical web weights on this kind of line commonly run from roughly 200 g/m² for light trim up to 1,200 g/m² and beyond for structural or acoustic parts.
We build the line so it can be maintained by the plant's own crew. Needle boards, card clothing, and dryer belts are wear items on any automotive nonwoven line, and we specify them so replacements are straightforward and downtime is measured in hours, not days. Every project ships with our engineers on site for installation and commissioning, and we stay until the line is producing to spec, which for automotive customers means running trial rolls against the target weight and thickness before we hand it over.
