Nonwoven Equipment for Geotextile and Civil Engineering Fabrics

Geotextiles have to survive things most fabrics never see: burial under a metre of graded fill, point loads from angular aggregate, UV before they get covered, and decades in the ground once they are. Building a line that turns staple fiber into that kind of product is a different exercise from making, say, wipes. It is heavier, slower, and far less forgiving of a soft spot in the web. KSG Group has spent more than 30 years designing and supplying that class of line, and we install and commission them ourselves in over 40 countries.

Most buyers who come to us for a geotextile production line are producing needle punched nonwovens in the 100 to 800 g/m2 range for separation, filtration, drainage and reinforcement. A few want lighter thermally bonded product for erosion control. The core train is similar either way: opening and blending, one or more carding machines, a cross lapper to build weight and cross-machine strength, then either a needle punching machine or a through-air / heated roll section for bonding. We size each stage to the web weight and throughput you actually need rather than selling a fixed configuration.

The two decisions that shape everything downstream are working width and target basis weight. Civil fabrics tend to run wide (we have built lines at 3.6 to 6.5 m useful width) and heavy, which pushes fiber throughput up fast. That in turn dictates the number of carding machines, the cross lapper layering profile, and the needle loom stroke rate and board density. Get those matched at the drawing stage and the line runs sweetly. Undersize the carding and you starve the needle loom; oversize it and you have paid for capacity you never use. We would rather have that conversation before steel is cut.

Because KSG builds the individual machines as well as the integrated line, changeovers and future upgrades are straightforward. A producer who starts with separation-grade fabric can later add a second card or heavier needle boards for reinforcement grades without ripping out the frame. Spare parts come from one source, the control system is one platform, and there is a single point of responsibility if anything needs sorting after start-up.
