SMS Gown and Surgical Drape Line Equipment

A surgical drape nonwoven line plant is more than the web-forming machines. There is fiber and polymer handling at the front, the forming and bonding section in the middle, then drying, slitting and winding, and finally the material handling that moves rolls to converting. Buyers new to the sector often underestimate the back end, and then find their line stalls at the winder because it cannot keep up with the forming section.

We would rather quote the whole line, including the unglamorous conveying and winding, than hand over a forming section and leave the customer to integrate the rest. For laid-web and composite medical fabrics, thermal bonding and controlled drying are where the barrier and the hand are decided together. Our bonding dryer line and heating-roll dryers hold web temperature steady across the full width, because a cold spot on one edge means a weak seam on every gown cut from that side of the roll.

We build the dryers with even air distribution and stable roll temperature control for exactly this reason. On the medical grades we have commissioned, edge-to-edge consistency is the specification customers watch most closely, and it is far cheaper to design it into the dryer than to trim off out-of-spec edges later.

Installing a gown and drape line is not a switch-on job. There is mechanical assembly, alignment, integration of the controls, and then days of trials to walk the line up to speed while the fabric holds spec. Our engineers travel to site and stay through that ramp-up, because the questions that come up during those first trials are the ones only the people who built the machines can answer quickly.

Buyers usually ask how long until they see a saleable roll. The honest answer depends on the plant, the utilities, and how ready the building is, but having the line designer on site through commissioning is what keeps that timeline from slipping.
